Asia Cup 2025 Points Table: How India's Super Four Berth Was Ensured by UAE's Win vs Oman

Send Push

India began Asia Cup 2025 with a nine-wicket win over hosts UAE on September 9. Five days later, they humbled Pakistan by seven wickets to top the group with a game in hand. Now, with their final match vs Oman on September 19, left to play, India’s place in the Super Four stage has been ensured. Suryakumar Yadav’s men did not even have to lift a finger for that to happen.

UAE vs Oman Result Seals India’s Asia Cup 2025 Super Four Berth

In fact, UAE were the ones who sealed the Super Four berth for the defending champions. How did they do it? By defeating Oman by a whopping 42 runs. The win kept their own campaign alive and also knocked Oman out of the Super Four race. This means India’s last match is of no consequence for them or for Oman by that matter.

So how did UAE’s Asia Cup 2025 win over Oman make sure that India were in the next round? Well, that’s where the Group A points table comes into play. India have four points from two games while UAE and Pakistan have two points from two matches while Oman has none from the same amount of matches. Even if Oman beat India by some miracle, India’s points tally cannot drop below four and Oman will maximum make it to two points which is not enough to qualify.

On the other hand, Pakistan and UAE have a virtual Super Four playoff as the winner will jump to four points and the loser stays on two. The winner goes through and the loser goes home. In either case, no side can go past India’s tally of four points, at best they can equal it. Of course, should India beat Oman, they go up to six anyway and are way out of reach. In other words, as things stand, no matter who wins between Pakistan and UAE, India is assured of one of the two Super Four spots from the group.

India vs Pakistan Again in Asia Cup 2025?

If Pakistan beat UAE, which is most likely barring a huge upset, then we shall see an India vs Pakistan clash once again on September 21. If both teams make it to the final which can happen since two out of four teams shall go through from the Super Four, then they will meet on September 28. It will be the first time that the Asia Cup shall see an India vs Pakistan final.

India’s Asia Cup Domination

The Asia Cup 2025 is only the third edition of the tournament in the T20I format. If India win, they will be the first to win two editions in the shortest format. Overall, India have won eight times in 15 out of the 16 editions before Asia Cup 2025. They did not take part in the 1986 edition due to it being held in Sri Lanka with home they had strained cricket relations. They are now gunning for a ninth title and are also the defending champions, having won the 2023 edition.
