As India launched Operation Sindoor, the Indian Navy was fully prepared to launch precision strikes, including on targets in Karachi, Vice Admiral AN Pramod said during a press briefing on Sunday.
He said that the Indian Navy’s Carrier Battle Group, surface forces, submarines, and aviation assets were deployed in the Arabian Sea in full combat readiness under the joint operational plan of the Indian Armed Forces.
“In the aftermath of the cowardly [attack] on innocent tourists at Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, by Pakistani-sponsored terrorists on April 22, the Navy's Carrier Battle Group (CBG), surface forces, submarines, and aviation assets were immediately deployed at sea with full combat readiness in consort with the joint operation plan of the Indian Defence Forces,” Vice Admiral Pramod said.
The Navy tested and refined its tactics through multiple weapon firings within 96 hours of the attack, he revealed.
“You may be aware that we tested and refined tactics and procedures at sea during multiple weapon firings in the Arabian Sea within 96 hours of the terrorist attacks. The aim was to revalidate our crew, equipment, ordnance, and platform readiness to deliver various ordnance on selected targets precisely,” he said.
Indian naval assets remained forward deployed in the northern Arabian Sea, maintaining what the Navy described as a “decisive and deterrent posture.” According to Vice Admiral Pramod, the forces were “in full readiness and capacity to strike select targets at sea and on land, including Karachi, at a time of our choosing.”
The Indian Navy’s forward positioning had a significant impact on Pakistani naval and air movements. “The forward deployment of the Indian Navy compelled Pakistani naval and air units to be in a defensive posture, mostly inside harbours or very close to the coasts, which we monitored continuously,” Vice Admiral Pramod added.
The Indian Armed Forces have maintained heightened readiness since launching Operation Sindoor, a multi-domain response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which New Delhi has attributed to Pakistan-backed groups. India carried precision strikes, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, eliminating over 100 terrorists. Later on, Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling, and drone and missile attacks, to which the Indian Army has responded well.
