New Delhi: A 25-year-old Chartered Accountant, identified as Dheeraj Kansal, was found dead in an Airbnb room near Bengali Market in central Delhi. It is reportedly the city’s first case of suicide by helium gas inhalation. The tragic incident came to light on Monday, July 28, after Kansal failed to check out of the Airbnb property on time.
According to reports, police found a plastic sheet over his face and neck, with a pipe attached to a helium cylinder still inserted in his mouth. A strong odour near the room prompted the property owner to alert authorities, who broke down the door and discovered the body.
Kansal had checked into the property on 20 July and was scheduled to check out on 28 July.

Suicide Note Posted On Facebook
Kansal left behind two suicide notes, one handwritten and another posted on his Facebook account. The note, according to News18, read, “No one should be blamed for my death. This was my choice alone. Everyone I met in my life was kind to me, so I request the police and government not to disturb anyone because of this.”
He also requested that his savings be donated to an orphanage or old-age home and expressed a desire for his organs to be donated. “I want to thank all of you. I am not going to mention any names because I don’t want any of you to get in trouble,” he added.
Authorities believe Kansal procured the helium cylinder from an e-commerce website based in Ghaziabad.
Police Investigation Underway
As per reports, Kansal had lost his father in 2002, and his mother remarried later. He was raised by his grandparents, and it is believed he was living independently in Delhi.
Police are currently examining Kansal’s mobile phone and digital activity to understand the sequence of events that led to the suicide. No foul play has been suspected at this stage.
Officials confirmed that this is the first known case in Delhi involving helium gas inhalation as a method of suicide.
