Liam Delap has been warned against joining Manchester United this summer. Delap has scored 12 goals and notched two assists for Ipswich Town this season, having joined in a £20million deal ahead of the campaign.
The highly-rated 22-year-old is expected to leave Portman Road this summer following the Tractor Boys' relegation to the Championship. He still have another four years to run on his contract.
But United have made him one of their top priorities for the upcoming transfer window. The Red Devils are desperate to boost their attacking options following a miserable season for Ruben Amorim's side.
Neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee have proven to have what it takes at the top level. The duo have mustered just seven goals between them this campaign, with United now searching for a new first-choice striker.
Delap appears to be their man, though both and believe a move for the Englishman would be a mistake. Addressing the striker directly, Carragher urged him to join a club a step below United's standing instead.

“I don’t think Delap should go to . After what happened with Hojlund. It’s the biggest club in the , I think it’s such a big step," Carragher told ' Monday Night programme.
"I know people will say about league position, but Man United is a monster. I think that next step - an or something - being the main man where you’re going to play every week, be the best player.
"He’s the best player at Ipswich, go to another club where you’re that for two years then go to that sort of Man United or whoever, team trying to compete at that sort of level."

Neville meanwhile believes signing Delap would replicate the same mistake United made in buying Hojlund and Zirkzee. The former Red Devils skipper insisted that the current iteration of the club is not a good place for young players.
“If he comes everyone will get behind him as a young player. But we’ve seen that United has been a tough place to play in recent years for a lot of very experienced players. So we’re right to express caution in terms of what’s happening at United," Neville said.
"You need to be resilient, you need to be ready. So I’d hope him going there, he’d get off to a good start and have a great career if that’s the move that happens. But we are right to think about what’s happened to other players.
“Hojlund came in at £70m, Zirkzee at £30m. What’s going to happen to them? Do they just leave? We’ve seen Sancho come in, Antony come in. Rashford’s going to leave. It’s interesting.
“There’s a good knowledge of Delap at United at a high level. Jason Wilcox has worked with him so he’ll be having a say on this. Omar Berrada at City. So they’ll have a good understanding of his game and his character - but United is a different animal.”
