Netflix have just added the perfect cosy horror series to binge this Halloween.
Haunted Hotel is now streaming on Netflix from today (September 19). The new 10-part animated comedy series is perfect viewing for those who love anything terrifying as well as those who scare a bit too easily.
It's release comes well ahead of spooky season and is the ideal excuse to get started early. While not an explicit horror title, it makes full use of almost anything and everything related to the genre but still manages to be a comforting watch.

There's demons, ghouls, ghosts, the undead, a deranged killer and plenty other paranormal activities in the hotel's seemingly endless rooms and corridors.
According to the synopsis provided by Netflix, a single mother of two struggles to run a haunted hotel with the help of her estranged brother, who is now one of the ghosts haunting the hotel and thinks the other ghosts have some pretty good ideas.

She is joined by her typically angsty teenage son, a younger daughter who has a strange interest in the supernatural goings-on of their new surroundings, and a demon who is trapped inside the body of a boy from the 1700s.
Haunted Hotel is created by Matt Roller, who has previously written for shows including Rick and Morty, Community and Archer. He has also worked on sitcoms Mr. Mayor and The Goldbergs.
There is no wasting time in setting up the idea of the series, as viewers are thrown straight in. There's plenty of time to catch up on backstory and lore later on, as dedicated Rick and Morty fans should know.
It means Roller's wealth of experience writing for such hit shows is prominent from the off. This is enhanced with a stellar voice cast including Scrubs star Eliza Coupe, Superman actor Skyler Gisondo, SNL alum Will Forte and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia favourite Jimmi Simpson.
What that results in is a delightful and highly rewatchable, twisted family comedy.
The show is also well worth recommending to those who enjoyed the 96% rated BBC series Ghosts. Especially considering how much the sitcom is missed by fans following its finale. It's premise is so similar but with Haunted Hotel being animated, it is able to stretch that bit more.
There always seems to be the possibility of a new bizarre spirit or ghost to cause hijinks just around the corner. One of the later episodes really takes advantage of this and the whole environment shifts in a way that is just not possible with a live action show.
That is also the main way it can be compared to Rick and Morty, which can't be ignored. Haunted Hotel is already doing for horror what that series did for sci-fi.
There seems to be just limitless potential for where this new Netflix series could go. Fingers crossed the streamer shows as much faith in it as it easily holds the potential to be a mainstay for the platform.
