The movie, which runs just under two hours, has already been flooded with glowing reactions from those who have enjoyed an early screening.

Only 43 critical reviews have arrived so far, but presently the new film is achieving a 93% rating score on Rotten Tomatoes. Such an impressive score this early suggests great things for The Long Walk as it prepares for release.

Many have highlighted the film's intensity and disturbing scenes, whilst observing that you simply can't look away.

Numerous critics have praised the storytelling, highlighting Oscar-calibre performances and describing it as Stephen King's "most powerful" literary adaptation for the big screen.

A reviewer from Flick Feast commented: "A gruelling yet transfixing watch... as heart-wrenching as it is compelling, marking it as one of the strongest Stephen King book-to-film adaptations in recent years."

Film producer and leading Rotten Tomatoes critic, Perri Nemiroff remarked: "One of the things I found most remarkable about the movie is how it still manages to be soulful and have its heart firmly in the best possible place while wading into the darkness."

Meanwhile, a magazine reporter declared: "The Long Walk is the most heart-wrenching film you'll see this year."

Another critic observed: "Harrowing and hypnotic in equal measure, this is Stephen King at his most stripped-back and savage, delivered with a clear-eyed sincerity that only deepens the horror."

A further reviewer noted: "The Long Walk is truly something special and just make sure to bring your tissues with you."

The movie, directed by Francis Lawrence, features Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Ben Wang, and Mark Hamill.

Prior to its release, Lionsgate bosses have revealed a unique cinema experience where viewers must maintain a pace above 3mph on treadmills throughout the entire screening - or face ejection from the theatre.

The Long Walk arrives in cinemas on Friday, September 12.
