Baripada: Three persons have been arrested and two boys detained in connection with an alleged attempt to gang rape a minor girl in Udala area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per information, the incident took place when the girl had gone out with two of her male friends, both minors. When they were passing through a forest area, one of the boys went to relieve himself.
Police sources said the three accused persons appeared at the spot soon after the boy’s departure. As the three sent the other boy to call him back, the girl was left alone. Thereafter, the three men allegedly tried to rape her inside the forest.
However, the girl showed remarkable courage and struck one of the attackers, kicked them and managed to escape. She ran home and narrated the ordeal to her family members.
The family approached the Udala police station and lodged a written complaint regarding the incident.
Taking quick action, police arrested launched a manhunt and arrested the three accused youths. They also detained the two minor boys for questioning over their possible role in the incident. Further details are awaited.
