Meghan Markle 'miscalculated spectacularly' as 'thoughtless stunt' exposes true colours

Meghan Markle was slammed for sharing a "disrespectful and insensitive" video in Paris, which turned a site of "profound sorrow" into a backdrop for "her vapid content", according to a royal commentator. The Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance in France last Saturday to attend the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week.

But her outing was overshadowed by a video she posted on her Instagram after leaving the afterparty, showing her legs in a limo as the vehicle was passing close by Princess Diana's crash site. Meghan was criticised for the video by various outlets and royal watchers, while sources close to her hit bac,k saying the link between the two incidents was "tenuous".

But an expert has blasted the Duchess for her move, calling it "utterly tone-deaf and self-absorbed," and adding that she should have taken the "gravity of the location" into account before posting the video.

Lee Cohen, a US-based columnist/royal and foreign policy commentator, told the Express: "What an utterly tone-deaf and self-absorbed move. Filming herself lounging in a limo with her feet propped up, casually cruising past the very spot where Princess Diana met her tragic end-it's beyond idiotic; it's downright disrespectful and insensitive.

"It reeks of someone so wrapped up in their own 'glamorous' narrative that they can't even pause to consider the gravity of the location.

"She's not honouring anything or anyone; she's just flaunting her privilege in the most crass way possible, turning a site of profound sorrow into a backdrop for her vapid content."

Mr Cohen described the Duchess's video as a "thoughtless stunt that exposes her complete lack of empathy and class".

He explained: "No wonder she's been universally panned for it-it's the kind of thoughtless stunt that exposes her complete lack of empathy and class.

"If she thought this would come across as relatable or chic, she miscalculated spectacularly; instead, it just amplifies how out of touch she truly is with real human decency."

A spokesperson of the Duchess said at the time of her appearance: "This evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his [Pierpaolo Piccioli's] new creative chapter at Balenciaga."
