With just one simple cooking method, you can improve spinach's flavour, texture, and even its nutritional absorption. On Reddit, some people have shared their top tips for making spinach less bitter - with some thinking blanching is the way to go.
One person said: "When preparing spinach, either from a bag or fresh with stems, once chopped, always blanch it for one minute to remove the bitterness in boiling water."
They added: "Afterwards, bring it to a pan/wok/whatever you have and mix with the oil of choice (I used olive oil, but butter is best). Add soy sauce to taste (I used 1tsb per bunch) and let cool.
"The spinach should be much less bitter than average and nice to eat, but still pretty healthy as a meal. Sprinkled with some roasted chopped nuts like pistachios I think would be good."
Blanching spinach involves briefly boiling it, then plunging it into ice water to stop the cooking process.

This quick step neutralises much of the bitterness while preserving the vegetable's vibrant green color.
All you need to do is bring a pot of salted water to the boil, place in your spinach and cook them for one minute.
Next, immediately transfer the spinach to a bowl of ice water. Once cooled, squeeze out the excess moisture.
The ice bath will lock in the spinach's freshness and prevent it from turning limp and dull.
