Surat: Five days after the murder of Surat businessman Chandrabhan Dubey, Althan police arrested two suspects, Rashid Ansari (27) and his cousin Mansur Ansari (26), from Arrah town in Bihar's Bhojpur district with assistance from Jagdishpur police. The suspects were taken into custody on a transfer warrant by Althan police and were expected to arrive in Surat late on Monday night.

Dubey's remains were found in two bags from Mithikhadi (rivulet) in Limbayat on Friday last after his disappearance on May 12. Dubey visited Rashid's residence in Unn area in the evening, where he was allegedly murdered and his body severed into two parts. Rashid disposed of the body parts in Limbayat rivulet on the morning of May 13, according to police.

After their arrest, the accused duo attempted to deceive investigators following their arrest. Despite technical evidence showing they demanded Rs 3 crore ransom from Dubey's family, they claimed to abduct Dubey under instructions from other family members.

"As the accused did not know that the police had CCTV footage of Rashid taking two bags towards Limbayat rivulet, apart from other evidence, they kept on misguiding us. We came to know that Rashid gave Rs 1 lakh to his sister and his father. He gave a portion in cash to his sister while the remaining amount was transferred online to his father's account," said a police official.

The police questioned Rashid's wife and sister and retrieved the money he gave them.

During questioning, Mansur confessed to his involvement in the crime, while Rashid continued to deny participation, said police. "We doubt that money was not the only motive behind the abduction and murder of Dubey. However, the motive will be clear once both accused reach Surat."
