Russian President Vladimir Putin has underlined the longstanding nature of Moscow’s ties with India, describing the relationship as “special” and rooted in the Soviet era.
Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Group in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Putin noted that “the Indian people remember” how the Soviet Union had supported India in its struggle for independence from British colonial rule.
Highlighting the cultural depth of the partnership, Putin pointed out the popularity of Indian cinema in Russia . “We have an entire channel that broadcasts only Indian films,” he said, adding that cultural exchanges have played a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties.
Putin’s remarks came during a wide-ranging address where he also touched upon multiple international issues. He commented on US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, and the volatility in global energy markets.
